Volunteering Opportunities in HUBB

Capital Volunteering funding has made it possible for HUBB to now offer volunteer placements. We would love to have you join in our projects. Here are some of the activities you can join in:-

Havering Information Project

If you were ever in hospital, did you wish you had a friendly person to ask all those things you didn’t want to bother the nurses and doctors with – for example – Can I make myself tea when I want to? Where is a safe place for my children to visit me?

This projects starts in October 2006 and is aimed at providing information about services available for people on the Havering wards at Mascalls Park Hospital. We need volunteers who don’t mind listening to patients on the wards and helping them with general queries. There is a ward information pack for you to refer to and our training and development workers will support you fully in this project

Havering Recovery mentoring

On your road to recovery, would it have been better for you to have someone to help you plan your care the way you would like it to go?

Recovery is the new approach coming to mental health services. It is where the client is feeling better, and able to start taking on the responsibility for his or her own health and well-being. A recovery volunteer is someone who will help people explore, through a recovery plan, what things keep them well, and what support is needed for “bad” days. Helping people to re-take control of their lives by supporting their choices, from someone who has used services, is a valuable support that is missing at the moment. It is also an enjoyable way of meeting new people.

Barking and Dagenham Mental Health Awareness Training

Ever wished to challenge the stigma and discrimination that people who use mental health services are exposed to? Ever wished to tell people how it really is, and widen their understanding?

Join our mental health awareness training courses. They are based at our offices, and are delivered by people who have user services themselves. There are many opportunities to deliver training to a wide audience of people. You already have all the expertise you need – you are an expert in your own mental health. Past learners have all said they enjoyed the sessions, and it helped their confidence.

To be a HUBB volunteer please contact Lynn Burling for a chat, on 0208 590 2666 – Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday. Full support is given in all aspects of volunteering.
